It’s hard not to fall in-love with a City like New York.

We’ve grown up watching it on the big screen, heard countless songs in homage to its greatness, houses the best fashion, artists,world famous bands and it gave us Carrie Bradshaw. Enough said.


Aside from the typical tourist destinations like the Statue of Liberty, Saks fifth avenue and Central Park to name a few, there are pockets of the city off the road more travelled by tourist that flock in yearly to get a bite out of the big apple.

With the help with a local Brooklynite, Orelia has compiled a list of Top 10 things to do in the City of Dreams and lead you away from the tourist cliches!




Go to Chelsea Market to get super fresh sea food prepared in front of you and browse the vintage cloth stalls 




Head over to Rough Trade Records to listen to records, look at their latest art installment or have a ping-pong match on their upper deck.


Walk 50 metres above street level amongst roof gardens as you take the high line walk up Manhattans West side  






Stroll along the Flat Iron building and pop into the local design shops for cheap mason jar mugs and cool homewares,

Head over to Brooklyn on the L train and have the best pecan pie, grits and gravy biscuits at Pies n Thighs

Thrift shopping is a must: Grab a vintage bargain at Beacon’s Closet in Williamsbourg.

Enjoy the best cocktails in the city (and best views) on the rooftop bar of the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn.


Watch a gig at the world famous Radio City Music Hall 

 Buy one off vintage jewellery at New York adorned 

If it all gets too much: Join the locals in their weekend getaway destination to Woodstock and the Catskills Mountains just 2 hours upstate for skiing or river tubing in the Summer.
